It is adequate for me to get through a 5-hour car trip, about half of which has no mobile reception, without even thinking ahead. So what many people do is start playing a playlist at home when they are in their wifi and let it load up. That's probably just short of 3 hours depending on the style you are listening to. You can set this number of tracks separately for WLAN and cellular connection.
